Pete Smith's Review

Duncan Ferguson hails from the Scottish Highlands and this year follows up the success of his critically acclaimed ”Monday Morning Blues” album with “The Right Side Of Lonesome” (Highland Music). Toward the end of last year Duncan created a lot of interest with his single “Tall Ship”, the story of Scots who were forcibly transported to the New World during the 17th century. This, thankfully, is a feature of the new album. Duncan is not what one would describe as a dedicated country performer. His music is much wider than that embracing Celtic, rock and country and providing for those who like a little variety in their listening with a musical treat. Check out “Country Song”,”Dance With The Devil”, “Old Joe” and “Ferry Man”.

Duncan Ferguson “Tall Ship”.

Duncan is one of Scotland’s foremost exponents of that country’s folk songs. Not only does he sing them with great conviction he also writes them as he did with this compelling tale of white slavery of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In stark but bittersweet contrast the second track on this single, “Sweet Music Of The Night”, is a song of a relationship gone wrong, trying to redeem the situation but inevitably failing. Duncan is a talented singer and writer who deserves to be widely heard. http://duncanferguson.com

SLINGA’S FEEL GOOD CD REVIEW

*DUNCAN FERGUSON* (SCOTLAND)

The new album “The Right Side of Lonesome” is Duncan's fifth & perhaps one of his finest. All the songs on the album have been written and composed by Duncan. There is a touch of Celtic, Country ballads & a feeling in his music that will play with your emotions, it is certainly top class and definitely collectable Slinga

Homeland : Review by AJ Charron - Guitar Noise

Duncan Ferguson: Homeland

Independent

Scotland must be smiling thanks to Duncan Ferguson. Personally, I find that the buzz, these last years, around Celtic music has been so big that it’s almost become tiresome. Luckily, every once in a while, a guy like this comes up with a great album and a different way of doing it.

I said I hoped to hear more from this Highlander and he has delivered magnificently!
Duncan's newest album is once again a treasure, a beautiful blend of traditional Scottish music and modern day rock. The Highlander composes brilliantly, and this time around performs only his own material. And while I must say, on his previous effort the traditional songs were beautifully rendered, it’s obvious that Duncan Ferguson is much too talented to keep performing other material than his own. There’s not a weak song on this album and, like its predecessor, it leaves you with the feeling that it's too short. But if you really miss the traditional songs, Duncan will make you believe that some of these songs are traditional. Tracks like Patrick and Daddy Sold Me should be traditional. For a taste of something definitely different and better than most of the music out there, get a hold of this album!

Country Music In Britain

Tall Ship

Born in the Scottish Highlands Duncan Ferguson presents a new 2 track single "Tall Ship" which mixes Country, Celtic, & Adult Oriented Rock influences into his work.... The vocals on the single are excellent, as is the musicianship, and the whole performance has a driving energy which makes Duncan's latest single stand out from the rest.
He has appeared at many venues through the Scottish Highlands and Islands to date, as well as performing venues in the United States at functions, concerts, and festivals, and further afield.
Duncan has developed a maturity of style and confidence of delivery and the benefits of his constantly working at his craft are apparent in this work...  This latest single is a must for your CD collection, following on from his last album Monday Morning Blues which gained rave reviews and reached # 17 on the World Wide Indie Chart. This newest musical venture is sure to increase Duncan's fan base world-wide. The talented Mr Ferguson is currently working in the studio on 14 more self penned tracks to will be released before Christmas 2005. "Tall Ship" tells the story of the plight of Highlanders who were forcibly transported to Virginia during the mid-17th Century. The story will grab your imagination and take you on a nostalgic journey into the past. The new single bears the consistent hallmark of quality that we have come to expect from this popular artist.

"Monday Morning Blues"

Duncan Ferguson was born in Glen Morriston, a crofting community, set in a secluded glen in the Scottish Highlands. Some years later he moved to Inverness where he often used to sneak in the back doors of local pubs to listen to the local folk groups, and rock ban. Over the years he has written many songs, and wanted to record and desperately wanted to be involved in the production of his own music.
Now we have Duncan's third album  "Monday Morning Blues" with 14 original tracks. On this Cd we get 14 tracks covering a wide range of music styles and subjects from the familiar "Monday Morning Blues" going to work then the more country tracks — "Louisiana Sunrise" takes you on a drive from Florida, up to New Orleans through the bayous and the swamplands of the Mississippi with early morning sunrise, sunny days, blue skies, the open road, beautiful sunsets. "Unconditional Love" is a catchy song, about one partner taking advantage of the other, saying; "You always put conditions on my love. You should love me unconditionally". "Hawaiian Nights Aloha" has the writer enjoying sun, sand, and surf with his love in Hawaii while it is a wet winter in London. "My Way Home"  I can relate to — when we are young we never imagine growing older — suddenly we wonder where all the years have gone and the thought comes to us."What will they do when we're gone?" We also get some Scottish folklore in "Island Of Wolves." A well produced record with well written songs
