Dream Maker

The Night. A story about the experience of being on the road and the transient life of a musician. It tells of the lonliness of being away from your family and of time spent in featurless hotel rooms, or alternatively, driving along an endless and lonely road on a cold windy night.

Love is a dream I have many friends in different countries that would love to come to Caledonia just one time; we would watch the changing seasons and see the leaves fall and they could see some of this beautiful country that I love...I dedicate this song to them.

Innnocence This song tells the story of a Highlander who gave away his daughter in arranged marriage to his Clan Chief in order to gain his favour. This was thought to be a very high honour. I will let you draw your own conclusions.

High Plains Drifter An almost autobiographical song which tells it's own story.

Seasons The verses of this song were written on a napkin in a coffee shop in Hawaii, the land of sand, sea, and surf. This is the first of two songs I wrote that day sitting in the sunshine at Waikiki. The setting is in contrast to the lyric of the song.

Radio As a boy I listened to Radio Luxembourg and also to the pirate station  'Radio Caroline', which broadcast 24hrs a day from a ship anchored in the North Sea... British broadcasting regulations would not allow independent land-based radio in those days. Caroline was eventually forced off the air when the Government of the time tried to bring charges of 'high treason' against the operators, and made the supplying of goods or foodstuffs or records to the DJ's on board, a crime. At night I would fall asleep listing to the tinny sounds from my little transistor lying on the pillow beside me.

Dream Maker I walked along the beach one early morning in spring, watching the sun come up and the sunlight glistening on the sea. Fleeting clouds cast shadows on the ruins of the Castle above me on the hill.  I drove home, picked up my guitar, played a few chords, and I found the Dream Maker.

Deer Run A lonely old man sits on a park bench in the city with his faithful dog at his feet. The man dreams about the dim and distant days of his youth spent roaming the hills and glens of this ancient land. He is surrounded by people, but lives alone in equilibrium between this world and the next. He wishes he could see the Deer run and the Eagle fly just once more before he dies.

For your love This person cries when you are happy... She shows you how to laugh when you’re sad... She helps you through all the hard times... She is always there for you. Who is she?

Kissimmee The song tells the story of a girl friend who lives in Kissimmee; Florida. She lost her mother at the tender age of eight. Although the story is quite emotional and has a sad side, I tried to make the arrangement up beat and quite fast- to reflect the positive aspects of the special relationship between mother and daughter.

Culloden I wanted to write a meaningful song about the last battle to be fought on Scottish soil, and also for the brave men, women, and children who died on that day, fighting for the land they loved. The battlefield at Drummossie Moor overlooks the ancient town of Inverness the capital of the Highlands. The aftermath of this tragic battle was the Highland Clearances when crofters from all over the North of Scotland were driven from their family lands and holdings to make way for sheep. The evocative writing and arrangement paints a vivid picture of that memorable day in 1746.

Hot Headed Woman I wrote this song in a hotel bedroom in Hollywood across from Universal Studios, surrounded by pictures of stars of screen and radio from bygone years. It's about something we all spend quite a lot of time doing...Finding love, holding on to the emotion, and finally losing it.

Angie This song was written for the elder of two sisters from Florida; Angie said jokingly " You wrote a song for Deena but you never wrote one for me." Here it is.

The Sun The words "Flying To Close To the Sun" was written on brochure lying in my shop. I picked it up, scanned it, and the words of the verse came to me. There is some great guitar work on this track.
